say I add a new rust material to my layer stack, and I want to flip the normal direction of that material, to get more variation - how do I go about doing this?
The best way to currently go about doing this is to select the normal layer you'd like to adjust, select the Channels tab in Photoshop, and then select the red or green channel you'd like to change. CTRL+I will invert the channel. Clicking the refresh button in DDO will force 3DO to display the change.
Clarification: You'd need to do this once your document is finalized. DDO primarily works with masks attached to solid color adjustment layers, so there's nothing to invert until you rasterize the layer - I'd create a duplicate of the layer before you do any adjustments.
Not exactly - as long as you make a copy of the layer before you rasterize it, you haven't lost any data. It's just a workaround for the time being. You're among several who have mentioned this so far - there's a good chance we'll find a way to make it happen!
