. With the new Valkyria game announced today I thought I would see if I could figure out their hand-painted post process effect. I think I got it mostly figured out:
I started off by going into Photoshop and making a tiling brushstroke texture. In my postprocess effect, I picked out the dark pixels and multiplied the brushstroke over them. Then I took a paper texture, and multiplied the whole scene by that.
This probably isn't going into my game. I have an entirely different pixelly theme going on there. I just thought this would be fun to try out. For anyone interested in technical game art, I have tons of information on my website, showing off stuff that I'm trying out.
