Would a mining system also use displacement as a base? How much performance intensive would it be?
Yeah, you could absolutely use a mining system, with displacement, if you mean like mining rock pieces? You'd do the same thing with the rock mesh, just paint the cracks with the vertex painter in your respective 3d modelling software.
