Hi! I decided to take on a new challenge and learn a new engine. With this scene I plan to create the diner and a small part of the outside. Here are a few W.I.P shots within UE4 feel free to give your feedback on how I can improve as an artist.

Haha good work so far! Props are looking good. I would add some sort of human model in there for scale. It looks a little off to me. Did you do a block out first? It's a great place to start to knock out the composition as well as the scaling of the props before diving into texturing and such.

Another thing I noticed is the flooring. You didn't post a mood/reference board so I'm unsure what you're basing this off of but I'm pretty sure most these older style diners had those shiny, checkered floor tiles.

Also, I'm sure the lighting isn't done yet either, but I would like to see that played around with a lot as well because it is uninteresting at the moment.

I'm looking forward to the end result of this! Keep at it, I'm sure it'll be awesome.

    Hey cheers for the feedback!

In max I put a human scale and I do believe everything is to scale I hope :)
UE4 is really kicking my butt as I'm not familiar with it at all and so much of my knowledge is within Cryengine. I'm dislike the whole baking process which seems to take a long time even on preview. If you have any tutorials or videos to look into in terms of lighting that would be fantastic. I did do a quick test within Cryengine and everything looks sharper and looks better even with the default TOD.
Ah I forgot to post my moodboard sorry. I have created a black and white tiled floor which is now in the kitchen I feel it didn't fit so much.

Scale looks a little off to me in some places. The doors and jukebox look too wide! Also, the wooden planks on the floor are too repetitive at the moment but then you say you have used black and white tiles now? Good progress though, I think with some better lighting this would look great

I'm remaking the wooden planks so they don't look to repetitive. I can show both tiles and wood and see what you think. I'm watching some tutorials on how to achieve better lighting. Thanks again for the feedback!

Haven't had that much time to work on this. But I added back in the tiled floor and tweaked some textures. I'm really having a hard time with setting up some nice lighting. Coming from Cryengine its quite annoying to wait for things to bake

Yeah I agree with you on the lighting, I'd maybe build the lighting up from scratch again without using the external bounce light as much. On your mood board the image with the purples and reds would definitely sell the scene a lot more I think. Push the blacks more with some nice AO. Have you played with the post processing volumes?

Great looking assets though - you could have some dusty buildup around the stands. You could also make the scene more confined?

Just throwing ideas out. Looking forward to your next update.

Good progress! The scale still looks off to me, but maybe it's just that angle that isn't doing it justice. Maybe throw in some more renders of different areas of the diner so we can get a better idea of how it looks. Maybe focus on other parts for now  then do lighting builds later? I feel like even with awesome lighting the scene will be ruined if something like scaling is incorrect you know? Keep at it!

Haven't been able to work on this much lately but here is the latest. I started the lighting from scratch I'm a little happier with what I have, lighting for me is my weakest form at the moment.

Feel free to throw out any ideas I'm open to them :)
I think the scaling may be off for the doors could you please tell me what unit sizes you use for the doors that will help me a lot.

Yeah some dust build up would be nice, I'm also thinking of adding some scuff marks on the floor and reworking the roughness for it.
Next on my list is to create a few more props to place around my diner and then add clutter for example; dirty plates and food cooking on the fryer.

Just a small update I removed and redid the ceiling still have to texture it, did a few changes to the walls and removed the corner booth.
Still got a lot to do but I'd appreciate some feedback.

Progress has been slow as I have a lot of work to catch up with. But here is where I am at, I still have some clutter to make. If you have any ideas feel free to post here.
