Warframe cosmetic helmets, especially the newer ones, have always explored less traditional shapes and designs. They elicit mixed responses from the player base, and l love that about them. This invokes that same feeling for me . Can't wait to see where this goes.
I'm finding that pushing the silhouette but copying the shape language of the game isn't easy. Mainly because the game already has so many distinct head silhouettes. I've had a look at all the head silhouettes on the wiki and its really difficult to not make it look similar to one they already have. The artists have done a really nice job of not overlapping them too much; I would prefer to respect that.
Here's the Warframe Wiki image if anyone might find it artistically useful:
Need to make the panel divisions sharper, as they are being lost at a distance right now. I'm in two minds about adding more details or leaving it kinda minimal and getting the texture breakup to do the work. I'll decide tomorrow and then start the low poly.
I'm open to any ideas. Feel free to ask me about any workflow questions if anyone's interested how I made something too. It's all pretty straightforward.
Good work from everyone in the threads guys. Seeing a lot of cool stuff
No particular reason to go lower than the budget for a character's helmet. If you can get an extra 50 polys off a pillar that'll be dupped 200 times it can make a bit of a difference, but less so on something that'll be on screen 1-4 times. That should carry the reflections very nicely.
This is definitely my favorite Mag helmet in the polycount contest. I love it even more now that I see it has the cosmic globe thing inside of it the Mag's default helmet has. Great work!
@pior and @Blaqsailens thanks for the support Appreciate it!! Glad to have finished in time. Thanks to @kary for always being on hand to answer every question I asked, despite it always having an answer in the documentation that I overlooked haha
The helmet is supposed to display her love for the powerful planetary forces that mirror her magnetism. The 'Orbit' is meant to represent the next level of advancement from Mag's first Helmet. The cloudy constellations in her dome and floating magnetic pieces are all signature Mag features that I really love and wanted to exaggerate. I also was careful to leave the hard surface sharp edges on only the floating parts, since all edges are rounded on Tenno. Mag's floating parts on her Gauss Helmet seemed to be the exception so I was more rule-bending with levitating things, It was tempting to add more greeble details but Mag is so elegant and minimal that I didn't want to ruin the cohesion. Great contest, I already want to do another helmet! Steam Workshop :: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=566577954

Going to push for a better balance of the tenno curves/minimalism with the stylish tech on the next post.

Appreciate the support
Low poly done. It could be way more efficient but I don't want to sacrifice the normal and specular quality if I don't have to:
Just playing with the colour placements before submission;
