[Weapon Swap] - Galatine - Claymire

*UPDATE - Final Submission Complete*

I'm adding an updated image to the top of the post so you no longer have to scroll to see the latest progress.  Here ya go:



I'm working on a swap for the Galatine greatsword. The 'Claymire' is an infested greatsword that still shows bits of the original metal blade. I still need to add some organic tendrils wrapping along the blade and 'seeping' into the pommel.

Still in early sketch mode in Zbrush, but here is what I've got so far:

Signed up just to comment. This looks absolutely amazing. As a Galatine fanboy I would be all over this. I really like how the infested biology is pushing the blade apart. Looking forward to seeing it with some colour.

EDIT: Also, the name is super cheeky, well played.

Very cool idea.  Perhaps a touch more breakup of the blade at the bottom to tell the story of the metal getting remade, quite well communicated as is.

Like Kary said, the design is solid, but the break between the organics and metal looks more designed than overtaken. Little dashes of overlap combined with a more rugged and fractured texture would go a long way in telling "story."

Sweet notes guys, thanks for the feedback. I'll play around with your suggestions for sure, I was already planning on moving some more organics gradually up the blade, but these are great ideas for defining the story.

I'm currently refining my Exo-Calibur skin, but I hope to jump back to this soon.

Looks like we have a similar idea, but for different weapons  I'm digging it and agree with the crits. Can't wait for another update!

Here's a quick update with some color for better tint definition. I've started moving the infested bits down the blade. I also pulled it back from the tip of the blade and started carving in some more tenno-ish shapes. I'm still going to add some more infested creeping up to lower-mid blade, but I wanted to post an update:

Ahhh just wanted to say this looks super cool. Hoping to see more of it! The way the infested tissue crawls over and morphs the steel is very descriptive, and I really like your sculpting work. Great job on this!

After a brief hiatus I've gotten around to another update. Did some detailing on the handle and some of the inner tissue. I also added a bit more of the 'creep' up the sword. More updates soon.

This is something I wouldn't touch without ten layers of gloves.... Which mean you nailed the infested look perfectly!

Seriously though, this is a very good skin. I'm sure people who are fans of the Infested style weapons are going to love this! Good job!

The lack of a colorable blade bums me out, but it otherwise came out really nice.

I can tweak the tints around to get the blade tintable. I just feel like with their tinting system mixed with PBR, most colors on the metal would look...off.
