anybody else excited? i'm really looking forward to it. Been looking for an announcement time or something, but i'm having trouble. Anyone else having luck?
My guess is that it'll be on during opening ceremony which should be broadcasted on the public stream. Either way it should be on youtube a few minutes later at the latest.
Yea... I dunno. The plot feels pretty shallow. Or maybe it's the characters. It feels like the boiled everything down to the most standard, generic, thing ever.
Yeah..I know I'm going to go watch it, but I would have really preferred if the whole thing was CG. The humans just look so out of place to me, given the proportions of the orcs/creatures.
They did an amazing job on the human armour. But ya. Something about mixing the real humans with CG orcs. Or in that one case, what seems to be a human female in orc makeup. Just a little uncanny for my taste.
They're going to have to pull some crazy script magic to actually make this decent, because the trailer did absolutely nothing to make me want to see this.
It takes am awful lot to chip through all of that jade.
I think it looks amusing. The plot was always going to be a pastiche because that's what Warcraft is - A bunch of ideas lifted from elsewhere and blended into one slightly lumpy smoothie.
Compositing looks like it's got a ways to go. The CG on live action is unlikely to ever be perfect, but I'd expect it to improve markedly before release. They've got some lovely stuff going on there with characters and environments.
It's unlikely to be an amazing movie, but my interest is piqued sufficiently to give it a go.
Im definitely interested because they want to make this a series. So while the plot of this one may be nothing special, it's just the origin story. The ones after will really dig into the meat of the warcraft universe.
And the more i watch the trailer, the more im interested in it. And the less bad i think the CG is, so much as its a look they are going for.

I think its the compositing that looks bad to me. I may have amped myself up too much looking forward to the trailer so that could also be it. I am looking forward to the movie since I have been a fan of Blizzard and Warcraft since WarCraft II was the first game I ever bought. Hoping it will be good and I will have to eat my words.
I heard all kinds of amazing things about the trailer.. but after watching it I have mixed feelings. I just hope I will not think about Travis as "Ragnar Lothbrok" the entire time of the movie. That would certainly ruin it for me.
There are a few things I could gripe about but turning a huge game universe into a 2 hour movie means some things are going to change. The only thing that really stood out to me though was baby Thrall. Way too bright looking compared to anything else in the tent when he was shown. I will say though that looking at shots from Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic World in the trailer vs what was released in theatres there is a ton of color correction and compositing in general that could change. All in all though, I know my wife and I are looking forward to it.
I thought it was pretty solid for a first trailer. I've never been interested in Warcraft/WOW so I don't know much or anything about the story itself. So as far as the visuals go I like what I see.
Eh, the mixture between the humans versus the cg humans vs the cg orks vs reallife kind of bothers me but who knows maybe it'll be good. I was really hoping for something more akin to their full CG cinematics for WoW, Diablo, and Starcraft 2. Now that would be a treat
I say, A lot of interesting ideas going around regarding this trailer. I've always been a fan of this cg look. I'm super into the fact that, they're keeping everything highly saturated and really big, just like warcraft. I'm also glad they're using actual people. I've always been a fan of their cg cutscenes, but I've already seen FF: the spirits within, and I dont think i'd like to see that play out again in Theaters ;P. Considering how well this looked on the first cut of this trailer i'm looking forward to the visuals when it gets released.
It's funny how so many casual people say the CGI looks bad in movies, when half the time it's because the compositing with the live action was done poorly
Then again, compositing is technically images altered on a computer, so maybe they're half right?!. o_O
That's because everyone lumps CGI and compositing into one category. The stuff they do on the computer looks off for some reason. That's what people mean.
yeah, the CGI part is most likely comped with image based lighting, so they fit the world perfectly! as for the actors on green screens its sadly a different story.
Everything looked pretty good, the green baby stood out though.
I feel weird about this. The trailer makes me definitely want to see it, however nothing really looked particularly interesting about it outside of the visuals. I guess I just want to go to see the effects. Hopefully a second trailer can help build some excitement for the story.
Yeah the people don't seem to fit in. They should have gone whole-CGI, just having a couple of actors here and there in an otherwise totally CGI environment just looks funky, especially when the composition is off.
I didn't think the trailer was necessarily bad, but it did look generic as feck, even for Warcraft.
what i`m guessing with the full cg animation and it not being done a lot is that the general moviegoing audience considers full CGI movies as cartoons (aka kids movies) and don`t take them serious at first glance which would result in a lot less people going to see the movie. I assume this sentiment will change in the years to come but it will take one movie that does it so well that it changes general opinion and it will be a mayor risk. The wow movie is already a risk , you know it has a large fanbase but they`re trying to appeal to a broader audience and making it full cgi would limit that audience once again creating an even bigger risk.
anyway all of the above is speculation and even though i work at blizzard i don`t know any more about it as the rest of you so don`t take any of this as official reasons why they`re not doing a full cgi feature
Massive Warcraft fan and this movie had lots of good in it with some bad.
Story, Characters, Locals, Actors and CG all seem interesting and could be great with a director who is such a fan of the original games.
The Orcs, there village and a lot of the full on CG shots look PHENOMENAL. The compositing of the Live Action actors mix in with the CG backgrounds look straight out of 1993. Yikes that is rough. Nothing seems connected. They look and feel like it was all green screened. Which of course it was, but come on. With how GOOD the Orcs look and how much money must have been dropped for that you should get someone who can composite the film together.

Do you know if they'll show it on twitch? or do we need a blizzcon ticket to appreciate it.
Pretty nice CG on the orc faces, though.
He agrees.
Edit: I just noticed...He has earrings on his fangs..dat guy's a real hipster...

the CGI looks really grounded and part of the world though, lol, never though I would write that sentence.
