Hi Guys, I'm a student in my 3rd year at the moment and I really enjoy level layout and design, can you give me some pointers at people at the forefront doing this kind of stuff, websites, videos, making of, break downs basically anything you can offer. Also what sort of things should I put in a portfolio, as most of the guides and stuff online I have looked at are aimed more at the art side of 3d. I don't have a huge amount to show right now as 1st 2 years were learning and figure not portfolio worthy. Thanks for viewing!
My first layout piece, assets are not mine they are from an environment pack on the ue4 marketplace, though I can't find the creator to credit them anymore. the name of the pack was just "environment pack" so its proving hard to search for.
Just a little above shot so you can see how its laid out.
and just chucking in a detail lighting shot so its a little clearer.
As well as my own project I am also working on a group project with two other members to create an off-road racing game called baja bug (3dHit thread: http://www.3dhit.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=27486&hl=), with a playable level to be shown off at the end of April. Above is the early level design for the racetrack - set in the Bangladesh shipping yards. I also have a video of the first blockout of the playable area here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkbXjIWLKxk
