man i dont know why i never thought of making alphas in max, but that is pretty sweet and you cant argue with the results.

Thanks a lot for the tutorial, for some reason I never thought of using max or maya for the alphas... I tried it with photoshop, but getting the gradient right to get such a sharp cut is very hard to achieve with photoshop.
