The term "next-gen" has a tendency to be thrown around quite a bit and in a way it has lost a lot of its meaning in recent times. Until now.
Epic Games have been pushing the envelope with their Unreal Engine 3 technology with each passing month. Just when you think that there isn't anything else they can add to their already near perfect engine, the next update is released and blows everyone away. Now they are pushing their tech to regions where current hardware just can't cope.
If you're lucky enough to be at the GDC this year, you would have gotten a sneak peak at a video highlighting some of the new updates to the Unreal Engine 3 tech. Unfortunately, for the rest of us we'll have to wait until next week to get our grubby hands on it.
For now, here are a few images to soil your shorts to.

Can't wait to see it when it comes out.
A lot of people are asking "how much will games cost with this much detail?" I don't think it'll change much, we already sculpt detailed meshes and bake down all the details, besides tessellation, all it has is better lighting and shaders. And can have more objects and detail, but the Crysis 2 multiplayer maps are pretty packed with junk.
Blade Runner is all I could think when viewing these, as well.
Can't wait to see the whole movie presentation! :-o
