Hi everybody !
I'm here to improve my works. In order to achieve this I need more critical input.
So I will start to post my work here and maybe some of you will leave suggestions how to improve things.
At the moment, I'm working on my old project ( I never finished it ) and this time, I'm willing to put and end to it.
The big challenge will be the handpainted textures. It's not really what I do best ( at all !)
I don't think i will change the modeling but if you have some suggestions, I will listen
Here the pictures :
(The old unfinished version
Sorry for the low resolution)
Two exemples before/after the "renewal"
Hope you like it, anyway i do enjoy working on it
Feel free to share your ideas and thoughts about it, thanks

Quick update, doing some uv's. Not so much to show Only this viewport screenshot, blue meshes are already unwraped.
I'll just throw my two cents, just how I'm seeing it. My eyes tend to see the left bright spot, near the end of the stairs, then up to the stairs. It looks a bit darker on the well/rock piece it's attached to. Maybe add some light around there? I'd test it around a bit. But, overall I like it. Also, is that a candle by the bottom right side of the stairs?
I will try to put some more lights or push the value on the existing one near the rock/well to test
And yes, it's a candle, a lonely candle ^^
I tried some handpaint on a small piece As usual, feel free to leave suggestions I really need to progress on this kind of stuff !
(In this picture, the normal map isn't used ^^)
About your uv space, you can change that to have more efficient UV . For example you can detach the top your wood pillar and make rectangle uv. And don't forget the overlapping in your uv if you make 2 part really similar.
Good luck and keep it up
I was thinking about those details while painting. It was only at the end that i thought about the high frequency as you call it. I will make a better version with only the bigger cracks ( small ones will probably flicks with distance etc...)
Same thing about UV's
and a little sketchfab if you want ( i couldn't add the viewer in my post, seems to be bugged)

@mrgesy Thank you, I did try out a new lighting ( in 3ds max ). I will start in UE4 to see what can I do
