Strange normal map errors

Hi all,

I've been getting on quite well with normal mapping to a point. I still get strange missed rays and other errors which I cannot seem to fix or figure out why they are happening.

Here is my latest map:

As you see there are some missed rays on a small number of areas. Its weird because these areas are coompletely flat on the model and totally within the cage. Any ideas?

There other issue is the white areas, I have no idea what these are, in particular the large rectangle on the right side. In geometry this is the bottom of a mattress and is turbosmoothed, so why am I getting what look like geometrically shapped highlights?


Any help to figure out these last teething problems would be greatly appreciated.
