(Ninja edit) This weeks theme. Animal locomotion. Adam's initial subject was too vague, i think, and with how complicated animals are compared to humanoids, I think it's best to start with a walk or run with an animal. We can make it more interesting next week.

Here are a few of my favourite reference sites for animals. I strongly recommend using them.
Seems like a lot of people have been busy with other things recently (including me) but its good to put a theme forward anyway for those who have time to get involved
Maybe I got a little bit of time to touch the quad walk this weekend.

Had a lot of trouble with this one for some reason. I've done quad locomotion before, but usually with fantasy monsters and not a real animal. It felt overwhelming keeping track of just two more feet! Lots of subtle nuance in cats. I had to take a LOT of notes watching the reference.
Nice Jenny, some of the curves just need smoothing a little. The back right leg in particular seems to slow down mid-way through the push, then speed up again. I'm guessing there's just a sneaky flat tangent in there?
@JennyS : to add to _adamturnbull feedback , his front legs are cool!! they just start sliding before they leave the ground ( or maybe my eyes are betraying me) there is also a pop when they start to go forward.
@HenrikW: In the top view the head looks very stiff ;O maybe a little more of rotation will help to make it look more fleshy .
I don't know if the rig have more controls in the tail , it will be cool to see more overlap in it. It seems that the distance that the back legs travel are not the same as the one in the front.
Good job! it looks awesome !
This video is awesome! I learned so much from it and he explain it very good!
Haven't really done much with the head and the tail yet, just started on the tail and the head is currently just animated to counter the movement in the chest. The rig is set up to so that the chest and head follows the movements of the hip control and the head also follows the movement from the chest.
Didn't notice the difference in the front and back legs, but I can see it now so I'll work on that before I finish with the tail and head
That video is awesome indeed, helped me a lot getting started with the cycle
I wasn't sure to post it because is a mess and 2 legs are just like "placeholders" since I will be duplicating the animation from the opposite sides and there is no head , or body rotation/translation !! just some keys splined to feel the character , I will work his body tomorrow ( hope to not break the rules for using this "creature/animal/monster" rig) I am taking this as reference but I will adjust it to his weight http://www.mrdeyo.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Plate_709_Dog_Maggie_Galloping-1000x500.jpg
Thanks for the feedback, all! I had a little more time today.

Drat, only noticed in the playblast that there's still a little of that pop on the front paw. Don't mind that, it's on the list to fix!
@arturow: This rig looks like a lot of fun to work with! I know it's still in the early stages, but the back legs feel a lot less purposeful than the front ones. The front legs already have a purposeful feel, really driving him forward with a lot of force! The back legs feel floaty in comparison, especially when they're pushing him off the ground. Thx for the tutorial too!
@HenrikW: Cool Balto rig! Does it have controls on the back paws to let you do that nice roll off you've got going in the front paws?
@JennyS: thanks!!!! yeah it has like 5 keys but your feedback is very appreciated , I will start doing the body first :P! your animation is looking much better!!
great animations! I'm probbaly not going to be able to do much of the weeklys with 3rd workshop going on... Bar's raised and much quicker pacing as well. Everything's on my backlog though and I'll get to them when I'm able.
@JennyS: I don't know if its too much !!! maybe a little less will feel better but because we don't see it I don't know xD. Looking really nice ! as a comment, your front legs pop :P but I guess that you already know that \o/
I still don't work in the back legs , pelvis and S&S ! I still need to address JennyS notes ><!
Finished my cycle for now, might go back and edit it later if I have the time.
Added animation for the tail and the head, and did some minor adjustments to it.
Yours looks awesome!! just a tiny note , I think that the front of the dog can be improved maybe if you up&down his "chest" more it will feel better ( or maybe I'm watching it wrong heheh
- I think the legs rotate too much. - Try to separate the hips/chest/head up and downs !( The head has this awesome overlap , good job!) and that will feel more connected, right now it seems strange that the hips and chest go up and down together. When the hips get low the chest must be up - Looking good!
Only just come across this thread and thought i'd give it a go. This is my first time trying to animate any kind of quadruped so any feedback would be greatly appreciated https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIqpHGqLNc4
Looking good! have some notes for you: - Try to extend more his back legs , to give him that power to go forward - Maybe his up and down is too much , when we run ( animals too ) there is less transY ! - Maybe for a run his head is too up , try to lower it a bit and see how it looks - Watch this amazing step by step (actually for a horse !)

Think I'll go for a cat, using AM's rig.
If I do get time to do this I'm using the fox rig from creative crash.

Really like the look of this rig, but I didn't really like to animate with it unfortunately

Messed around with mine a little more. Need to fix the timing on the head bobbing. Think it's too much?
