Hi, i'm 9 months into a 3D Modeling and animation course and texturing is my worst area by far.
Before this course I didn't know how to crop an image or cut out anything. Didn't know how layers worked other than that one was on top of the other and you can't see the bottom layers through the top one.
Now I know theres a blend drop down box though what any of those do I really don't know so I normally have to go through all of them and see what looks better. I only just found out theres something called a clipping mask and used it for the first time a few days ago and now I hear theres something called advanced blend modes or something like that though I have no idea what they do.
If I need to marquee select something well the rectangle marquee tool can't be made diagonal or be changed after drawing it as far as I know so if I need to select a thing on a diagonal I have to select alot more around it.
Basically I can see what I need to do or what the end result in reference needs to look like but the knowledge to get the result is something I don't have.
I also don't understand the brush tool very much. To me one brush is pretty much the same as any other maybe with some variation in what parts draw a more visible stroke than others but still I don't know much as you can see.
Anyone know of a good tutorial series that would help me with these skills?

There's endless amounts of tutorials for that on Digital Tutors or Lynda. I would just grab some courses on fundementals of digital painting (not even texturing 3D assets, just painting 2D images).
That's the easy part. The hard stuff is upgrading actual art skills
Programs can look intimidating, but really, soon you'll look back and wonder how it became second nature. (like the wacom tablet, was a nightmare at first)
