Grid / snap settings and the like for tileable floors

Hey,

I am trying to have a crack at the max to Zbrush workflow and want to have some more precise layouts in Max. I am having a hard time trying to get the grid snappings to do what I want them to. Basically I have a plane as the guide (200 x 200 with 20 lines to start with). I am just trying to make some very basic layouts that overlap outside of the plane to tile when I bake them. BUUUUT I can't seem to get the boxes to snap with each other on the grid. No matter what I try the pivot on the box when I try and snap it is always between lines on the plane and then none of the boxes line up. Things like when I create the top edge, trying to drag the down to the bottom so the overlap will work properly, but the snapping isn't working how I want it to.

Does anyone have any guidance they can offer about setting up the snap settings in max to setup this sort of pre-zbrush layout in max.

I hope that made sense.

Thanks heaps.

S.

Do you have enable axis constrains turned on in the snap settings?
Are you switching what max snaps to to suit what you need i.e Edge, Grid, Vert.

You said you have a plane with guide lines on it, but if this doesn't match your grid and you have grid snapping on, instead of vert snap, its going to snap to the grid even if its invisible.

ok yeh I think I have a few mixed settings in he mix. I will run through them tonight when I am at that PC again and see what sort of a mess I have made of things.

Do you have a preferred way you work with this sort of thing?
