Maya Bevel Issue

Hi there,

I'm trying to get to grips with Maya's bevel tool. I can get it working in most cases, however, there are several areas on my model where it's creating a pretty odd result.

Has anyone seen this kind of effect before? It seems to be removing some faces and setting the normals of some faces to reversed. I've done some obvious checks like looking for holes in the model but I don't really know how to troubleshoot.

I've also included an example of when I do it on another similar feature and the bevel works perfectly how I expect.

Any help would be appreciated.

I haven't seen it mess with the larger faces like that, but yeah I've seen similar stuff. Look here towards the bottom half of this post. It has issues with particular poles+angle combinations. No "easy" fix as far as I know, sorry.

In your case, its working along the lower half well enough, just the top seems to be the issue. You could insert edge loops and slide or delete sets of them to do it manual.
