Hi,
When importing my textures/mesh into DDO - version 1.8, my mesh appears with the gray metallic material:
My textures are named like this:
Pistol.obj (triangulated and unwrapped in max)
Pistol_AO.tga
Pistol_Id.tga
Pistol_Normal.tga
Im using Photoshop from Creative Cloud 2015.
Also, when applying Oily Painted Metal material:
I also donwloaded your demo project. Once open, here is what I see:
So I guess your demo scene works.
Thanks for your help,
* As a side note, I just tried with CS6 and it does the same thing.

I've inspected your input maps and have found alpha channels in all of them. That usually causes errors in DDO, so I removed the alpha channels and encountered the same error in 3DO that you showed. I also converted your ID map to a *.PNG, which is the format that DDO prefers. That may or may not have contributed to the problem, so I decided to look into your OBJ itself. I imported it, changed the mesh name "Pistol" to "pistol" (in case case-sensitivity was the problem, you never know! ) and re-exported it - I still see a glossy material on your model, so I'll pass this on and see if we can dig into it more for you.
Although, I did a very simple cube with a normal map and it seems to work. But when I try to import a complex mesh, it does the silver thing.
Try importing your model into Maya and re-export the file. Create a new project and see if that works.
After a lot of testing in modifying smoothing groups and test testing a bunch of export setting, I finally figured it out!!
You have a problem with your xform on your object. To make it work just do as follow:
In 3Dsmax (or other software) detach the elements (make theim a separate object) in red then perform a "reset Xform" on it.
Next select all the rest (the gun's body) and apply a "reset Xform" too.
Finally re-attach all the objects and export it.
You can see here the result Before/After:
By the way good job for the modeling part!
Thanks again,
In case you can't make it work, tell me and I could send you the file directly.
Glad to hear that! You can mark the subject as [Solved].
