Hi,

I wish to buy a laptop which would be good enough to run 3ds max. I don't have a huge budget which is about £800. What are the key specifications I need to be looking at and what is the minimum spec to run max properly. Any suggestions please?

I don't intend to do huge projects on it, more for modelling individual vehicles, buildings etc and doing beauty render shots of them.

Thanks

You should try to get an i7, at least 8 gigs of ram, and at least a dedicated 860M / 960M gpu. That should be possible with your budget.

Honestly, I got a shitty laptop from 4 years ago that's waaaaaay below what Zac recommends and I've been using it with Max for a long time. Never had any issue even when pushing the polycount quite high - the occasional slowing down but definitely nothing preventing from working. Nobody is going to pretend that Max is well optimized but any decent mid-range GPU will do. Your budget is more than enough.

Now if you want to use stuff like Substance Painter... that's another issue.

Yeah my suggestion is mostly geared towards that budget, and getting a great bang for your buck laptop for game development in general. If all you want to use is max, you can get by with a lot less.
