Hi guys, longtime lurker on these forums, but only recently I decided to get into character art, so I've being trying to learn as much as possible these past few weeks.
Although my original goal is character design in both 2D and 3D, I really like 3D modeling so character art is something I'm really considering.
Here's my current character WIP. This is my first serious go into modeling a full character, so any crits are very much welcomed. So far it's only up to the Zbrush sculpt.
This is my original character design drawing. I'll be coloring the concept when get to the texturing phase.
I'm thinking that for practice I'll just retopo and texture the main body on her underwear, then later work on the clothing. Is that a good idea?
Thanks for looking~

on first glance, I want to ask, did you do this by eye? by which I mean, did you model it with the reference sheet as a transparency, or did you do this by looking at it?
It looks spot on, but to be sure I wanted to make sure to ask that question.
I look forward to seeing it textured and to seeing how you approach the hair and her furry tail
Love her hairs, though !! A lot !
Gail_Blitzy - Thanks! the hair will probably the hardest part. I've already tested a few ways but wasn't too pleased.
PyrZern - Thanks for pointing that out and it does kinda look off, I'll try to move them and see if that works better. funny thing is that it does line up with the ref, but not the rest of the face... I messed up on the drawing there..
VanLogan - Thanks! yea, the hands have been bothering me quite a bit, so I'll be revising them soon.
Love the hair so far.
With her outfit and everything on it's looking solid for the most part. There are some anatomy touch ups but if they're underneath the outfit and not going to be seen it's really not much of an issue. :P
The hands definitely feel a bit rough for the concept, I think her hands would be a little softer and more dainty.
The nose I would turn up a bit more, pixie style. Make sure the bridge isn't too sharp. Maybe just a tad more draft to the face. (I might be crazy on this one! :P)
A tip my teachers always used to give is to not rely too much on lining up your model with the ref in zbrush. Its easy to make things fit in zbrush and you can scale the ref to fit sometimes and fool yourself.
Other than that, a really great start for your first real full character.
I really like the hair even though it's lo rez, it reads very well. Her outfit brings a lot of it together nicely too! It's a nice character! I like her design and look forward to seeing your progress on her!
