Maya UV editor

Hiya,
Long story short I'm in a contract for doing animation. The client wanted some model changes and I get to do them (yay :() I told him I'm not a modeler and it would also add to contract, he said to go ahead and do it.

I've got the changes made and I'm trying to adjust the UV's in maya's UV editor. Other than the UV editor being slower than a depressed snail xanex when I move a UV it moves the surrounding UV's and I can't figure out how to stop it. It's driving me nuts. I must not have the right search terms because I can't find anything on google.

If someone could help me with what setting stops Maya from moving surrounding UV's I would be forever thankful.

Funny i don't have Maya in front of me right now but:

You need to hover the UVeditor (over the UV patch) right-click and select vertex-shell so to speak, i know it's tricky but you need to tell Maya this way or you're going to select the whole island.

You may be in soft select mode, press the b key to toggle.

I'm also a bit new to Maya's UV editor (2016), and I had this problem. Like peanut said, it's probably because you're not selecting the UV shell the right way. The way I fix it is to select a vert inside my shell, Ctrl+Right click To UV>To UV, then Ctrl+Right click To Shell.

The weird thing is that sometimes I just right click and go to Shell mode, and I can move and select shells super easy (Like Autodesk's documentation page says). Then all of a sudden, I can't anymore and I have to do that longer way of selecting it...

While the shell wasn't exactly the problem it helped TREMENDOUSLY and allowed me to get everything done way faster. So thank you.. thank you... thank you.. thank you.

I was not in soft select mode. I thought about that when when I hit B to go into SS it grabbed a whole lot more.

I can't see the exact problem you're having, but another weird one that pops up is having UVs that aren't adjacent(but are connected in 3d space) being moved when in shell mode, and that happens if you've got symmetry turned on in the modeling toolkit.

Interesting, Jason Young! That may have been my issue.
