These guys have pushed VR to where I always imagined it. It's still in development but what they are doing corrects some of the shortfalls i've always thought VR had. Okay, it's not even classed as beta yet but what they're doing in levels of physical interaction and projection on the real world looks amazing.
I've been wanting to map my house layout in VR to interact with it but wires are a massive drawback. The laptop backpack kits are pretty sweet idea around it, albeit expensive.

So, do you think we'll be getting VR kits that work like scalextric tracks and you just piece it together in the real world and in unity/UE4 etc?

The Void stuff looks fun. I've seen a few portable VR rigs that work pretty flawlessly in RoomSpace VR- although a bit clunky.

I know at least one company is doing wireless:

But from what I gather the tech is very expensive and not anywhere near affordable to the average joe.

It seem more likely that you would get modular 3d assets that you could dress your VR den with...It's eerie how much presence you can get through an HMD from an object that doesn't not actually exist in reality- so you may not need to dress a whole space with every wall, or obstacle. I guess we will see.

Someone may make a fortune off of Modular cardboard obstacles if it takes off.

I loved the tech insider video, +recognized UE4 running on their computers.

I wonder how disorienting something like that could be? VR in portal? IE I wonder what would happen if someone trips and falls with that expensive gear.

Still, pretty cool to see virtual reality mapping to an actual physical space. I wonder how it could be applied to games where you'd actually receive damage and can lose/restart. Have to walk back to the start zone? I guess it'd be more like a souped up version of laser tag/paintball where you have to walk back to respawn.

Beta-testing must be pretty fun, imagine an artist placed a bench a couple of inches off the real-world bench and someone goes to sit down, oooops :D

I could see the military simulation companies possibly loving something like this.
