Hi everyone,
This is my first time posting on Polycount and I'm excited to absorb everyone's great critique. I'm a game art senior in college and now we've started work on our Senior Project. Since I want to do monsters and characters for a career, I'm doing two enemy characters for a dark fantasy/horror type theme.
This is going to be a dual boss type situation, the humanoid guy with the eyes will provide ranged support to his partner, the monster, who is going to be the melee muscle.
Here is the concept for both characters:
Right now I'm working on the humanoid guy, I thought I'd get him out of the way first since he has equipment and clothes and so on.
This is my sculpting progress so far:
I would love to hear any thoughts on this and I will be continually posting updates as I make progress on the assignment.
Thanks,
Swey

Hahah, well, as you can see I didn't think about it too hard, but I think what makes the most sense is that he no longer has a nose or ears (which the bandage is covering), but there are sort of lumps under the bandage so perhaps they were cut off at some point. And the top of his head, including his original eyes, magically mutated into some sort of...eye-shroom. Probably forbidden knowledge or curses or something, you know how those things are.
Update tomorrow, with less polygonal pants.
No major changes to the face.
Just started blocking out this guy. I figured he'd be tricky to balance. How's his center of gravity feeling?
Yeah! Definitely going to try and pose him something like that if I have time. For now, though, I'm sculpting in symmetry mode.
Working on the hands:
All right, so the high poly sculpting for the ranged character is more or less finished. The only thing that remains is to get a nice fabric alpha on his doublet sleeves & panels and some sort of suede-like texture on the pants, and also to add stitching where it's needed. I'm planning to try making my own brush for the stitching, wish me luck.
When I've got the missing textures and the stitching on there, I'll get a proper non-crappy clay render!
Got a little bit further blocking out the anatomy on the other guy. I've done a bit more work on him since this screenshot.
Sorry for the cruddy renders, they were made in haste! Should have just screengrabbed from the viewport as usual, it's not done anyway.
Arms are still low-res as I'm waiting to get some real-life reference before I solidify them.
You really made him creepy, but can you tell us more about how he attacks? His arms are very short to actually hit anything, or does he bite?
And the ranged many eyed guy, how does he attack? He has large claws but does he throw stuff? Or use guns? I like the concept and models though .
How about lazers from his eyes.. .ALL OF THEM. it would be like dodging disco ball lights.
Okay, I neglected to post last week but in fact I have been busy polypainting. Here are a couple progress shots:
