Hey everybody! First time doing a WIP thread and second time posting! My project I'll be working on will be a fairly quick turnaround 2-3 weeks at most.
Below is my breakdown of the piece I'll be working on. One of my teachers used to always have us make these to keep track of how many things we would have left to model and to assist with material separation when it came to texturing.
This piece is by the awesome Johannes Helgeson, check out his stuff!
The end result will be for games, but not quite sure how low rez I want to go yet. My last one was on the lower side, so I'll play it by ear once I get to retopo-ing!.
Anyway let's start this project!
(Will edit this post once the end result is done as well!)

I spent the latter part of the afternoon and into the early hours of the morning working on her anatomy and proportions. Getting the hair mostly in as well. Haven't made it to detailing the horns. I spent awhile working on legs anatomy only to then come to the terrible realization it will all be covered by her fur (which I will sculpt for game rez. Maybe a Blizz or Riot styled piece). So I might just end up making her some fur "pants" so that I don't completely destroy what I did, even though it won't be seen anyway. Anyways! Comments and critiques are always welcome and encouraged! There is something bugging me about the anatomy, and I'm reaching out to my peers as well as you guys!
Got most of her parts and accessories in there, just a few more to go. Trying to accentuate some aspects of her form and chisel the face a bit more. It's getting there but needs more work!
But I think you want to rework the body a bit before going further.
Here's a little paintover with my read of her skeleton:
In my opinion the pelvis is Much higher and actually quite narrow. I read it like this because of the angle of the legs.
About the legs, you want to shape the bone structure a bit better. Try to combine human legs with goat legs. Here's a goat skeleton ref:
The horns looks good but I'll tilt them backwards, pivot them and even bend them. It will be more interesting, and fits the concept better I think.
Also the arms needs to be quite thicker, she have relatively strong arms.
The face is off a great start, but be sure to avoid the "banana smile", a smile is more a stretching of the mouth rather than a raising of the corners. Now the center of the mouth is a bit too low. You followed the concept, but concepts artists cheats a lot, and he drew a smile a bit like if the face was tilted down. Also, her upper lip needs more thickness.
And last thing, try to avoid the straight line in side view of the belly, it will be more natural with some curves.
Hope that's not too much... =p Keep up, this is a great character!
I'll get on it and will be posting soon.
Here is the current progress -
Moved her pelvis up quite a bit, tried to angle the legs a tad more based off of Abrvpt's paintover and make the blend into more of a goat leg shape on the bottom. It might not be extreme enough :P. Did some softening on the facial features and moved the center of the mouth up. I think it's not as extreme of a banana as it used to be. Also set the eyes and mouth a little farther back to add some more draft to the face among other small touch ups. I moved the antlers back based off of Abrvpt's suggestion as well. Definitely more interesting! Also thickened the arms and tried to make the breaks and apex of the curves extreme. Let me know if they still need to be chunkier!
Tomorrow I'll be powering through finishing her huge braid in the back, as well as finishing and touching up the rest of her accessories so I can start the low rez. Always looking for more feedback!
Quite a bit of progress has been made, currently painting her diffuse map. Let me know if you guys notice anything that looks off!
For reference, here is an old image of her high rez fur before some friends of mine advised me otherwise, because I just wasn't happy with it anyways.
I found a great thread by Ravenslayer here on the forums and really liked the work he was doing on fur. I tried it out and still need some practice on the technique, but I felt like it just wasn't working for the concept anyways. Just a bit too complicated and breaking the silhouette way too much. I then reworked the fur after browsing through the old Riot art contest and looking at some good low rez fur and kept it simple.
The result is the finished high rez, at least for now. She has been retopo'd, UV'd and had her AO maps baked out.
Here is an AO shot from Marmoset.
As I said earlier, painting out the diffuse right now! Cleaning the AO map when I find things I didn't notice earlier. Maybe you guys can see some stuff I missed!
