Default values for "Dynamic Paramter" shader node?

Hey guys,

I'm using a Dynamic Parameter node in my material to expose material parameters to the particle editor interface. But as far as I can tell the Dynamic Parameter seems to have a default value of 0. I used to have my animated shader results showing up nicely in the preview window so I could get a feel for how the material will look. But when adding Dynamic Parameter to the equation my material is now completely static inside the material editor. Any way to change the default value on the Dynamic Parameter node?

I remember this being an issue when I worked with UE4 a year back or so. Thought it would have been solved by now. Or maybe it's just me missing something obvious? :)
