Gold armor?

I've been searching all day for a decent golden armor tutorial, anyone have a link or suggestions? I'm trying to achieve the same semi realistic, cartoony look like below.




This is the picture I'm trying to apply the same technique to. Everything with a different color is on a separate layer, right now I'm learning how to render different types of materials so I can complete this.

Ok gold is weird. It's colour is actually all driven by specular, and is one of the only materials that exhibits a coloured specular. http://www.webexhibits.org/causesofcolor/9.html

So what you actually want to do for it is paint it as if it is reflective chrome, but tinted orangey green.

would it be easier if i started in greyscale and applied color?

depends on what is in the reflections around the character. If there is a lot of colored stuff, then no.

it's basically a lot of sand colored architecture, not much different than the background of the example picture. thank you for the link!

This guy does lots of 2D tutorials. Might be able to pick up some techniques from the dude?
