the right path to game arts

Hello everybody,

I'm sure many people have been talking about similar stuff in this forum... But I want to go more specific..
I plan to study an unrelated bachelor to game art/CG.To the other side I'm willing to get real knowledge and practice in GC, but is not time wise to spend 4 years more in a bachelor for CG neither I will have the time to follow full time.
I have done school in a self-study orientated way... It's nice but I didn't feel me confortable and took me a lot of extra efforts. I'm in the Netherlands and there are only full time bachelors, or MBO levels...
Is it worth to take an "online bachelor in game arts?
How about game art MBO4 Grafisch Lyceum Rotterdam?

Thanks in advance !!

Don't waste your money. School is only... sort of worth it if you can attend classes on Campus and make friends and connections (the only thing of true lasting value I got out of school). You can learn a lot more for your buck by spending it on Online tutorials.

Also, a degree is only truly useful if you are intending to work internationally, it helps out at getting immigration approval work work permits and such.

I would advise against those two schools in particular. They're both run "for profit" and that kind of school has some shady practises.

For example Art Institute has had to close campuses because of the fallout from some lawsuits against them:

For-profit education companies like EDMC have been under fire for a while for reportedly preparing students for a career that can't justify the expensive tuition.

If you're going to get a degree get one from a community college or a proper university.

Considering the OP is not from the US Im going to go against the grain here and urge you to really consider what your options are for studio employment and immigration are. If you ever want to immigrate to the US (and maybe Canada Im not sure) then a degree will be an immense help. I dont know how the immigration thing works for the rest of Europe.

Furthermore, I would avoid an online degrees like the plague. If you see a good class that interests you and you think will teach you something, then yeah sure take an online class but an entire degree online normally isn't worth crap especially for the cost involved.

From a skill standpoint it would be best to enroll in an art program that focuses on fundamentals instead of purely CG. You can teach yourself that.
