Today I had to bake out some world space normal for a 2D sprite. After spending 10 minutes trying to get the bakes colour/normal space to be the same as the engines I thought f*ck it.
Placed some coloured sun lamps along the corresponding axis (They were voxels, completely flat so I wasn't worried about normal/colour blending), rendered out the image and it worked perfectly. It begs the question
What dodgy methods have you come up with to get a job done?
I know game art is pretty much just one big clump of fake visuals and trickery, but it's always cool to hear the methods as well.
