Trying to get better at making plants, so I figured I would start a page to help me with my progress. Here is the fist one I got done so far. If anyone has any suggestions on how I could improve anything I have done. Please let me know.

I would take a look at the shape of the leaf you are using, and compare it to a ref. Maybe taper the entire shape of the branch more, introduce some colour variation, and maybe reduce the amount of fronds of the whole plant, as it seems pretty chunky/heavy compared to a fern ref. Will also help reduce overdraw.

More negative space in your alpha and more color variation in your diffuse would help a lot. Also you could fit 2 different front textures on one sheet, perhaps one with some browning, torn leaves, damage, different colors etc. to help to make it look more natural. From this angle at least it looks like your card set-up is good, but I'd try to vary the scale a little more and also add some smaller fronds springing from the center. Google up some ferns and do some more comparisons and you'll get there.
