Here's my current take on Yeonji Rhee's concept titled Viking Pub on Artstation. It was such a lovely concept I decided to step out of my element and try to do this! Here's the result!
It's a really cool design! I would try and do more with the cloth on the roof. Decimate it more so you can get some really nice folds via simulation. You can then bake it down and produce a normal map for a lower poly version.
I think you can do more with the silhouette too. You could have some planks on the roof sticking out further than others.
Hey guys yes I'm still going to sculpt the planks and fur of the cloth on the roof with tears etc. Thanks for the kind words and suggestions I can and will definitely push it further!!
Hey guys! Winter would definitely be a cool idea, maybe i can toss this in ue 4 and vertex paint in some snow! Electric I don't really do hand painting and I know the modeling is more geared towards it but I am going to attempt to lean a bit more towards realism. Pbr style. If it doesn't work I will handpaint it for sure.
Substance painter maybe designer, not sure, bit of photoshop and quixel etc. Right now it's just normals that I sculpted from zbrush off my models and some retopo's.
Hey man! I love what you have so far, your bakes overall are really clean I do notice one bit that didn't bake as well:
Do you have soft or hard edges there? That may either be a gradient issue? Or you could try adding more geo to the lo poly if the silhouette of your hi poly is a lot different than the lo.
Also, what are you using for the piece of cloth on the side of your building? The folds feel a bit uniform and a bit too large. Have you tried using marvelous designer? For a piece like that, it would be really quick to do. That or maya cloth. Keep it up though! I can't wait to see what you do with the textures .
Thanks for the feedback yes the geo is definitely too different from my straight and boring geo. I either need to bevel the edge and resculpt it or entirely re sculpt it. I'll get it fixed thanks for the feedback!!
Thanks so very much turneep! I'm texturing it as we speak and I'm havin an absolute blast! My favorite project so far for sure. A really great time and I am learning tons of things each day
I feel like the wood is a bit too repetitive.
There's a lot of overuse of the same colour gradients and the wood on the shields on the roof seem a bit too noisy for me too.
The wood in general also looks quite polished? (possibly because of the rich red and the slight gloss to the material) I think using a dry-ish/chipped desaturated wood texture for this over all feel would work for you much better along with some metal variations for the edges of the shields etc.
It's a nice start though, keep going (Y)
tbh I feel that the texture you've used for the shield and some parts of your model (the wooden section with grunge on it) doesn't really work at all... maybe use a different one? The general look of it looks almost like camouflage because of the noisiness in the details, also the roughness map/specular of the wood is generally still quite shiny and polished looking so maybe bump that down a bit more (Y)... everything else seems like it's coming along nicely though
Thanks kid in the dark! Yeah It's intended to be layered on paint. Similar to marking ones territory w colors etc. I think its my roughness values on those sections paired with the wood that it making certain parts too shiny and blown out. I definitely feel it's a far cry from before. I still need to push some contrast values, and tweak a few more saturation levels, but hopefully it's getting there! Thanks for the feedback!
Pretty awesome this - the design is great but my first thought was... "Very Brown"
The entire thing right now is just wood wood wood, brown brown brown.
I'd really think about adding a lot more colour on this bad boy, why make the shields warn? I'd take advantage of the "fun" design and add a a bunch of bright painted pattens down the sides and on the shields.
It'd even be cool to see some colored cloth on there, some bunting on string attached to the ground for example.
Thanks for the reference and comments and critiques guys! I'll add in more color to the parts of the wood, im pretty content with most of it. Adding patterns on the shields could probably be done as well to make it stand out even more. I'll keep tweaking it and give an update! Thanks again!
Here she is. I am actually really glad I listened to critique consistently and tried to improve this cause I am pretty proud of the end result. Thanks again guys couldn't have done it without you!

Looking forward to seeing more!
You can still have it draped and hanging off a bit, but if you pull it up some more it should look more static and stable.
Cheers!

I agree with Kid.in.the.Dark that woods are too shiny.
