Hi, started working on this, It's some kind of potion bowl or something I thought up, its still in a pretty early stage but some feedback would still be appreciated! Cheers!
Yeah, I'm working on them, though most things I try to do end up looking pretty weird, I'm going to try adding some sculpted fur because I saw some other old furniture doing that, I'll post again when I have something that works!
So I retopologized and did all that stuff and I'm currently playing around with materials and this is what I have so far. I'm not really sure how I feel about it, I mostly think that the copper is a bit monotone and maybe I should introduce another material to break up the monotony, what do you think? (I'm aware that the leave planes needs transparency)
I'll work on adding another material, I think it will solve the kinks quite a bit. The potion thing I have thought about adding and i think it will happen though ill make it like a mesh, I saw someone posted something like that on artstation and it looked really awesome! About adding a loop i'm not sure, I have been working all day on reducing the polycount since the original retopo had something like 13k tris, I managed to get it down to 6,5k wich is more resonable I would say. What do you think, Is another loop justified at that polycount?
Update on the material situation, added a second metal on the details and played around with different combinations and this is the best I managed to do so far. I think it's a little better though there is something that doesn't click, not sure what it is... Suggestions are welcome!
I think the metal is blending in too much with the color of the stone. A brighter type of metal like semi-polished gold, copper, bronze, brass etc. may help accentuate the piece, or perhaps the stone is just a bit too shiny. You will also want a pretty decent lighting setup to really show off the metal surfaces.
the last pic looks really nice.
I love the metals but I think the stone needs more love
Jup, I'm going to hop on that today, I didn't give it much love except the base in ddo. Today I'm going to throw it into substance painter and give it some leaking copper oxidation, not too much but enough to make the stone look like it has been sitting in the metal for quite a while.
Okay here we go, I made some leaking copper oxidation as I said on the stone, I think it works pretty well even though it's subtle. I didn't want to do too much as the rest of the copper doesn't have that much oxidation, I also added some AO for the rock. What do you think? is there anything that rubs you the wrong way?

Im not so sure if the overall composition work together well.
Maybe try some different Materials?
and as far as Gazu was saying about the composition - it would be great to have some potion brewing in there, with some nice particle effects etc...
