Hey everyone,
New Project I'm starting today, I've been on and off doing some contract work and doing small props/speedsculpts in between, so I think It's about time I jump into another Environment.
With all the excitement about Fallout 4 I've had this idea brewing in my head for a while. What I'm aiming for, is an NCR military outpost, on the road toward New Vegas.
Some (stupidly) quick moods of what I'm thinking/aiming for:
Moodboards are something I like to get done super quick so I can jump in and starting building stuff. I hate it when I spend too much time, scrounging for images. Bad practice, I know, and something I need to break the habit with.
Anyway, here's my blockout, built in Max and pulled into UE4:
I'd like to have New Vegas in the distance, with mountain ranges beyond that, with some nice desert foliage surrounding the area. Lighting, I haven't considered yet, but I like the idea of a midday scene, with the Sun baking down on top of the Outpost.
Ideas are more than welcome at this point, since it's early stages and I don't think crits have much to go on yet (except perhaps my pre-production habits, haha) so, yeah, shoot 'em at me!

I'd have another stab at those rocks - at the moment, they're too big and chunky. Consider making a set of smaller, highly-sculpted rocks - check the rawk thread for inspiration on this. Once you've got a good set, you can bunch them together to make the kind of craggy cliffs you get in New Vegas.
Good rocks can get you far - you can also half-bury them in the sand in places to easily add more interest. Also, Z-axis shaders for sand
Also, The green on those shrubs is maybe a bit too harsh/deep in colour?
And if your going to do something fallout inspired, make sure you grab lots of shapes from the 1930 eira, the petrol pumps for example could be an amazing piece to put in that scene. Also, if you look at Edward hoppers paintings for reference they can give you an amazing inspiration for mood, but also ref for what the insides of buildings were like back then.
The block out is looking good though, hope it goes well
Sorry to jump in, here, but what did you mean by this, Shadacer?
I believe it's a shader that when applied, means a sand material will always show on the Z of any static mesh, even if you turn it.
