[Portfolio Review] Fellow Graduate need feedback

Hey everyone

I have recently graduated from University where i passed with 2:1 and was wondering if my portfolio can work if i would like to apply for a job. Although I know that my work isn't good enough, so I would like you guys to give some feedback. Perhaps give me advice and the places where i need to improve and I am aware that there is a lot to improve.

On the portfolio I have my FYP "Steambots", Journeyman "Aviator" and some concept art module with graphic design.

I kind off thing that it is overload there and I might cut Concept Art and Graphic design

Thanks Guys

What kind of job are you looking for? Your only 3d assets are 2 characters, so I'm assuming you want to be a character artist? Definitely get rid of the concept and graphic design sections. From looking at your portfolio as it is right now it seems like you're a better illustrator than a 3d artist or concept artist.

Think about what you want to do and then just make more art.

    Thanks Joost.

I was thinking more on creating robot or weapon assets.

Yea I kind off piled in stuff there without thinking about main focus. At the moment im looking to get part-time job so i could work and focus on creating some more steambots ,ofc better quality that the last ones, and some weapons. Maybe mechanical environment inspired by steampunk looks

Thanks for the feedback, really appreciated

I would personally get some better renders of your wireframes. There's nothing wrong with grabbing it from Max but I think that doing it in Marmoset Toolbag with a simple lighting setup would just look a lot nicer. Also, if I'm being really picky I would change the font that you have used for the text in your renders :D

I don't really like the design of your website. It takes way too many clicks to get to the actual images of your work. And you don't really need a "home" page, just go straight to your work. Also if you scroll all the way down, there is big empty space. Not a big fan of Wix either, it's quite slow.

My only complaint is some of the images are so large that you have to zoom out to see more than half of it.

Journeyman - good to meet a fellow Teesside graduate :) You must have been in the year under me.
From what I can see, the site looks professional enough, moreso than mine by far - however, like the other guys here said, there's three clicks before we see some shots. The shots are all pretty similar, too - consider trimming the fat by removing some, pose them together or do some kind of breakdown to show the employer what you did to create this project.

The aviator guy looks pretty polished from a stylistic standpoint, but a little - lonely. Consider embedding that video in some way to give him more context, or maybe some stills from JM to show his use in the game.

As for your other stuff, you said that you wanted a sci-fi-steampunk aesthetic, with an environment. My suggestion is to go for something small, like a corridor or office - that way, it won't be a massive timesink and you can finish and polish it quicker, at the same time learning the workflow.

Good luck, and PM me if you want some more advice :)

OMG. Thank you everyone for the help. I really didnt realize some of the issues that I have with my portfolio.

For sure I ll change the design of my protfolio, perhaps something closer to @WarrenM linked. I think later on I might add Sketch Fab links.

    Your feedback is so welcome
