Hello Polycount, I've been a lurker for awhile and I have participated in a couple of contests, the most recent being the throne room challenge. I'm a teaching assistant for the games program and the Digital Animation and Visual Effects School. Getting into the gaming industry has been a long time dream of mine and now I have the ability and skill to make that attempt. I always welcome helpful critiques no matter how harsh, and I'm just hoping to showcase my talent and improve my skills. Most importantly to get work:)

I Started modeling her armor using MeshFusion in Modo
it made getting a bunch of shapes pretty easy
After that, Retopologizing was a breeze
And baking the AO and normals was pretty easy also
Currently I'm in the middle of texturing her
So far this has taken about 2 weeks working before my shift at the school. A couple of the instructors encouraged me to post my progress on here, so any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated!:)
and inside of unity 5
What is your character intended for? Would it be for a mobile game? Are you using Normal/Spec maps?
With robot/mech characters one of the most important things is the specularity. Metallic or chrome areas should look different to the flexible areas of plastic. Highlights should vary based on edges. Those emissive patches would ideally reflect in the shiny surfaces. It makes a big difference.
Your model is really nice already but you could push it further! Try comparing it to some mech works by other 3d artists and see what you can puuush
Thanks!
At the moment it's intended for last gen or current gen systems, but mainly it started as more of a learning project in using mesh fusion and hand painted techniques. It does have spec and normal maps, but it's using unity 5's standard Spec shader. Mostly, this is for me to learn some new techniques. Getting all the surfaces to look right is what I'm working on now. I appreciate the critiques and hope they keep coming!
worked a little more on getting the spec and roughness maps looking right
handpainting it
Thank you
