Choosing a new graphics card

I am about to upgrade my graphics card but I wanted to ask you guys about a couple of things first. I had my eye set on a GTX 980 ti, but Chris "Beefaroni" Stone told me about the 390x. Now I am conflicted. The main thing that sparks my interest in the 390 is the 8gb of vram and the price point. But the price point also worries me concerning build quality, lifespan, etc. If I have the cash should I just get the 980 ti? Also if anyone knows how the 980 ti performs with zbrush, substance painter, or any other software lemme know.

I am also going to buy a new card soon so I am also in the research phase. From what I have seen R9 390X performs close to GTX 980 (non Ti version) but it has 8 gigs of memory which could be useful in the future. Ti performs similar to Titan X (From what i have seen in the game benchmarks, still not sure about 3D apps).

There are also Fury cards which come with the new HBM memory. They are in the similar price range as Ti cards. But in my opinion I think Nvidia is a better choice for 3D modeling overall. Just go for the Ti version and it comes with 6 gigs of memory which is also nice but I highly doubt you will need it soon unless you are using 4K display.
