3d Character for Portfolio ( Scumm )

Hey guys, I am planning to make a piece of character for my portfolio.

I will be thinking to sculpt it first then retopo the model and paint the textures.

I just want to know if you think this kind of character is a good piece to add in my Portfolio as a character Artist.

Imo, create pieces that are stylistically similar to the work of studios you want to be employed. I personally like the concept, but if you want to work at Rockstar or Naughty Dog, probably not the best choice.

Hi guys, thank you for the replies.

I do live here in the Philippines and i working abroad right now is not a possible choice for me. SO i will be stick into Freelancing in a few years.

If i am thinking to work into Naughtydog, what character do you think do i have to make?? Any suggestions??

While i am sculpting this character, i have a feeling that this character is too generic for me, but im not sure. I just want to create a portfolio piece of a character right now.

What do you think guys??

Personally I like the fish guy more, you called him generic, but I think it stands out way more then standard Barbarian guy #45, but that's a matter of preference I guess .

Still pick a char you like! cause if you're halfway through the process and kinda lose interest it's a shame!

Hi, Thanks for thought about the references. I have started sculpting the fish guy yesterday and while i am sculpting it I feel like that the character won't challenge me and it's like my comfortable zone sculpting the fish character since I've been sculpting creatures a lot for the past months.

SO i have decided to create a much realistic and much more natural and believable for my portfolio. I also looked for a lot of great artists portfolio and it seems that they create a portfolio piece of character like the male character above.

Update: I've already sculpted his upper body, but did not put too much detail in it since the abdominal will be covered by a cloth. I'm gonna sculpt his cloth next, when i am already happy with the arm proportion.

good start! Lips cheeks and forhead need some work on the shapes tho. You might want to beef up his traps, and lats, and make his forarms a tad smaller too if you are going for realism.

Both are cool concepts for any portfolio. I think if you're just establishing your work, then the human one is a slightly better choice. Not to mention that showing you can sculpt clothing and armor is a big plus. Really impressed by the in progress work!

Thanks guys!, I have already adjusted some facial features of him including the forehead. Here I have already started sculpting his upper cloth.
