Im really bad at lighting both in 3DSMax and other software i.e Mudbox, UE4 Unity
and i really want to learn more.
I have a basic 3 point light setup but using that to light and make the asset look good is not a strong suit. Be it characters, or weapons my renders never seem to look great.

So im wondering if you consummate professionals could post how you set up your lighting? Be really great if you could post images aswell?

Thankyou in advance

You should post an example render first so ppl can see what you are trying to acheive.
Lighting for an environment will usually be a different setup than what it would be for a weapon or character.

Lighting and it's interplay with composition are just one of those hard to learn skills that feel more intuitive than concrete, all you can really do is practice a lot and try to learn from other artists by studying their work, photographs in particular but also paintings.

And posting your work here for critique would help too.

So i just finished the HP for this HK 23 for a metal gear fan art im working on.. Just applied some basic arch design materials and 3 free lights as a 3 point setup. and played around with the camera angles a bit.
Then threw it into my portfolio base and organised the images...

Not fully finished and obviously want to texture it properly using PBR workflow as my first attempt at PBR. I think it will ease me into it as most if not all is metallic.

Let me know what you think
