Your stuff is nice man. I would normally advise against having both env and characters but you seem pretty solid on both fronts. Your env are def stronger but you seem to fit the generalist mold pretty well. The one thing I would nix is the demo reel unless you have animations or fx on there. i didn't even bother watching it. Unless ur an animator or fx artist, no one is going to bother watching a reel...just stick to the screenshots.
Thanks Slosh, yeah Im a game envrionment artist in our studio, but Im into concepting and character design as well. theres another page which includes my 2d concept
One of the things I usually advise my students is to avoid doing your own designs. You get judged on that as well as your ability to model. There is a problem with modelling something you designed, how do I know that you modeled it exactly like the design. Since you made up the design I have no idea if you are able to stay on model. This is the case for your transformer and for your dragon. I would recommend either modelling an established design or showing the design and giving credit to the concept artist. It is very rare in the industry that you get to design your own character. You better off showing that you can make what the concept team creates.
I agree with Slosh as well, decent stuff for a generalist, and your envs are much better than your character work.
Keep it up, pal.
Cool stuff. I know you're going for a vertical layout which is cool, but I want to see some bigger images. I know at the same time you want to keep the site loading time low. But maybe you could make the images link to larger ones when clicked on?
Really digging your portfolio so far. I would make the images bigger as we are missing out on some of the awesome details in your work. I also suggest leaving out your unfinished pieces. Your portfolio should include only your best work. You want to show the Art Director you are serious and can complete your work on time. Loving the hand-painted environment pieces, would love to see more of those. You might also want to consider whether you are heading towards a career as an Environment Artist or Character Artist as many studios are looking for specialists.
I do agree... bigger pictures... less space between them... make it simple and clear... specially in the main page...
Also, don't put your contact on the top, put it on contact or about me...
Your environments are pretty solid in the stylized side. I wish you had break downs for some of them... like this one or this other
Get rid of the stuff you feel is old... and show some more of your best.
Agree with everyone else, work is pretty solid. But you're not selling it well, bigger pictures, wires, texture sheets, etc should help a lot. You know you can do all these things, but someone that is looking at the portfolio does not unless you show them. Keep it up!
