I am a 3DS Max 2012 x64 user. When I hit the "H" key to bring up a list of objects in the scene, there is 1-2 seconds before the window pops up. Same behavior when I do a right click in a viewport to get a context menu. There are a few other operations that have the same behavior, too.
Other people on the net have this issue.
I Googled a bit, and the newest Max isn't marketed by Autodesk as having gotten better UI performance. Does anybody with the newest Max know whether the UI has gotten more performant?
I'd like to get a new rig (mine is based off a Intel quad core I got in '08), but I'm not sure its worth it. I would get the i7 5820K if I did, though.
Few games are played on the current rig.

If you miss the old, fast dialog ( at least with object counts < a few hundreds ) you can revert back to that dialog by changing "SelectByNameUsesSceneExplorer=1" to "SelectByNameUsesSceneExplorer=0" in all "currentDefaults.ini" files you can find in your 3ds Max user folders
However.
I have been using the layer pallete to organise my scenes since they forced the new (slow) scene select dialog on us. You can leave it open all the time and on 2012 its like a million times faster than the normal scene select window
