Weird Maya 2015 viewport 'ghosting' issue

Hey there count. I'm working on a character rig and I am encountering a weird viewport problem. See attached image.

The model seems to leave behind a wireframe on some joints when I try to paint skin weights and rotate the joints. The model also has a wireframe on it even when it's turned off or deselected.

I've reset preferences and updated my graphics card drivers but the problem remains. It's only on this file, and only on the main part of the mesh (the character has a horn which is not affected)

Any ideas as to what would be causing this weirdness?

This might be a simplistic question but you didn't mention that you attempted it as a solution: Have you checked to make sure Wireframe on Shaded is unchecked in the Shading viewport menu? And for the joints, is X-Ray Joints disabled from the same menu?

Yeah both are checked off. I also checked off wireframe on selected in the main Preferences menu. But that takes away the highlight when I select the mesh.

I am also running SP6. In fact this started when I downloaded it xD

I took a closer look at your image, I see what you're talking about now. The face wireframes look stuck in place. Is it possible you have a duplicate mesh somehow that has no material assigned to it? Can you interact with that ghost at all?

Another weird problem. When I switch to Legacy Default I get this weird triangulation. Perhaps a normals issue?

Here's my outliner. I don't see any extra mesh nodes.

I am also working with only one layer for the geo.

so, what I did to 'fix' it or atleast work around it was to copy the same mesh from an earlier rig file and just paste it in and replace the old one. Seems to work.

    Maya, you so crazy.

Hard to say. I've experienced edge ghosting with UVs that was caused by hardware, but never with polygons. The triangulation thing I've seen going between different versions of Maya, such as from 2015 back to 2013. Can't offer much more than that unfortunately :/

I've had a few cases of "stuck" ghosted wireframes in the ortho views lately. Big change for me was an nvidia GT730, could be drivers too.
