Hey beautiful people of the internet, Ive been searching for the best inexpensive texturing software for videogames and have narrowed it down to quixel and substance. I have a very good understand of quixel, but I understand its extremely buggy and thought I'd check into SD as an alt.
The problem is, I don't know anything about substance and their YouTube videos didnt really answer my questions (maybe I saw the wrong ones?) Does anyone have links to videos that would be good to learn substances work flow? I'm willing to rent for a month to learn it, but I'd like to learn the basic theory before I commit any money. Any insight would be appreciated!
Oh! Also, I love that quixel can generate normals from photos with (more or less) one click, does substance have any way of doing this too? I am not looking to create a hate thread, I am just looking for the best solution for our indie studio.
Thanks guys, much love!

You can make a normal map out of a height map just by using a normal node as demonstrated in many, many videos, and you should check out pipesfranco videos, though if you dont understand the official tutorials I kind of doubt it'll help, the official tutorials are pretty easy to understand IMHO
Edit: and Christophe Desse videos though he had a pretty thick accent if i remember correctly so it might be a little hard to understand what he's saying
It may also help you to not focus right away on using it to create a material for a baked prop with UVs. Focus on just creating a texture as a texture to start out with.
This video helped me.

Yeah all the videos are actually a lot better then I thought. I guess I was watching older videos on youtube. Thanks guys for the support!
some really good ones
You're absolutly right, I have been concentrating on the "theory" of texturing over the last few months so its been a pretty smooth switch to Substance. I am pretty good with photoshop, but I am always trying to improve my skills.
