Hi Kihlstrand, thanks for the suggestions, I'll keep these in mind when I do the next pass of detailing. Here I made a some composition paintovers. Tell me what you think. http://i.imgur.com/AwdYfq0.jpg
This is a neat idea.
I think the texturing looks a bit plain, it looks untextured, it's all grays of nearly the same value.
Her pose feels stiff and unexciting. She looks like she's calmly sitting at a desk. A more dynamic hunched over pose might work better.
How is her cowboy hat not being blown off by her speed?
Yeah it looks kind of flat right now, I can probably add some deep panel lines on the bionic horse to break up the silhouette more. I want it too look like a mix of sleek and clunky machinery. Also a bit of light scratches and dirt/grease buildup probably wont hurt.
Cool suggestion! Yes I think a hunch over pose is better suited to give emphasize to the character's superhuman speed. The pose I have right now does indeed look odd and stiff, specially against the dynamic background I have. The character looks more like stunned in a stasis field or something rather than being in the process of transforming/metamorphosis which is what I wanted the image to convey. An action pose/ charging pose might be more interesting and would make more sense.
Wasn't able to work on the rider as planned, instead played with the SFX a bit and increase the contrast and saturation to lessen the grayness. The lightning might be too much so removed it. Color still looks flat but looks ok. So calling it done for now.

Not sure why but the composition it looks more dramatic flipped horizontally.
Seen you posting in "what are you working on thread" thought I could stop by and give some critique.
I made a paintover to show what I think could be pretty fast fixes and could do a lot.
Prominent eyelids, darker eyebrows, sharper jawlines, check the planar of the face. A few references will help a lot among the way!
Hope it helps, have a good one.

Added more saturation
Made the lightning more dynamic
Added placeholder textures to my clipboard
*interesting* if you scrub the scroll bar and very fast while looking at the lightning, the effects come alive. O.o
The background can maybe be a gentle slope.
I'll need to find more references.
