Need Art Designer/Lead/Director

Hello there,

We're a small team of folks in Denver, CO area who are looking to make games. Some of our team are ex-industry with good experience and one is doing this on the side of his current industry employment (coder). None of us are college hopefuls and we aren't some doe-eyed startup with unrealistic expectations. We just want to make games of our own and see where we can take that.

We are working with Unity, tracking in Jira, documenting in Confluence, have a private Github company repo, and can provide Photoshop licenses for team members who need them.

Right now we're working on building a streamlined J-style RPG in Unity in 2D. Our goal is to create a great micro-sized RPG (no more than 30 hours) with the old-school JRPG sensibilities but with a focus on more modern design/story approaches (fewer tropes, more real story, less filler, more mature, less melodramatic).

It has recently become apparent that we need more help in our art than we had anticipated initially due to situations in our current art lead's life. We would like to pursue building a relationship with someone who thinks they can help us find our artistic vision, processes, and overall direction. We haven't been tackling this project for very long so we have yet to define a lot of aspects of our approach to the game's art. We DO have a general conceptual idea of water-color inspired art, but with more clarity and detail than the modern, more abstract water-color based games (less fading colors and washed out details, more vivid imagery with that distinct physical medium feel to it). That said, it really is just a general concept and we would be happy to have additional conversations about other ideas.

Responsibilities we'd be looking to see filled:
- Perform concept and design work to establish what kind of art we're doing
- Establish an art work pipeline process
- Help us figure out what else we need to make effective use of art team members
- Help us organize art team and art tasks
- Help us find more artists

Elements in that description with "Help Us" are meant to specify that we wouldn't expect someone to take these on without support and without discussion and without the rest of us sharing in these responsibilities. The first two are things none of us are really qualified to do ourselves and why we're looking for something higher-up like this.

This has potential to be a resume builder, a one-off gig, or an investment in the founding period of a new company, we're in this for the long haul, but we don't expect everyone to be.

Regardless of what you'd like for the long term of this, we're willing to offer a good percentage of profit to someone who can help us get this done. Considering none of us are getting paid, anything we make will be profit at this point, so there's pretty much no overhead to weasel away from your end-game profits. We would be willing to make this as official/legally binding as you'd like. We won't back out of our agreements and we want to make sure you feel comfortable and confident in trusting us to follow through on profit sharing.

If you think this sounds interesting, contact me and we can talk more in detail.

Thanks
