I'm going to start posting some of my WIP substance work in here after a little crit has gone a long way in some of my work.
My current piece is based on this image i took in portugal on holiday:

Now my first iteration looked like this:

Suffering moderately from "plastic toy" syndrome and looked more like a shipboard planks.
It improved:

But still struggled to evoke the character of the bleached wood worn by many feet.
After a lot of tweaking I was happy with:

Which looked much better, pursing of the wood around the splits and a better more dynamic look.
I've finally pushed it a little further, accumulating sand and grit between the planks and finessing the wood splits:

I'm thinking of exposing:
Grit amount,
Sand level (will require more work on the sand) ,
and maybe trying to expose a "bleaching" parameter which would tweak a number of gradients and maybe soften the depth of the plank details.
I'm also thinking of revisiting a version without sand, more closely knit with iron nails. Feeling happy with this for now though.
Any C&C welcome.
