I was setting up my UV cage and applying the renders to my Low ploy, making sure I had no ray misses etc etc. Once all was well I applied my smoothing groups from UV shells using a script called TexTools (handy wee thing). Once I did that I got these awful artifacts(See picture below) that I've never seen before, what are these and how did this happen? My UVs are fine and there is only a standard shader applied to the mesh.
It only happens when I apply my smoothing groups, with or without Textools.
Edit - I cut some of the seams on that Uv thinking is might be a stress thing, no change.

I found a couple of problems with the UV projection but the reason I was getting that horrible artifact was because I had an "edit poly" modifier in my stack. I collapsed it and all was well
