Revolver asset

Hello everyone this is my first thread that i have posted of my work. I am excited to show everyone my work and would be very appreciative of any feedback you could give me!!

This asset is a revolver that i worked on in one of my finals classes at my current university. I modeled it in Maya and materials were done in Substance Painter. Rendered in Unreal 4.

It's a good model but the materials could use some work. I would probably lower the albedo on the grip and work on adding in some subtle dirt and tarnish on the metal portions which look very uniform. As it is it's a little too hard to tell at a glance whether the grip and the rest of the gun have different materials. Also the screw in the middle of the grip should be rounded, not flat. That should be easy enough to correct in NDo or whatever if you don't want to go and rebake everything.

I also feel like some of the edges are a bit too hard and wouldn't read well. If you bevel them more they will read better in the game. Don't go crazy with the bevels but I think they are a little bit too small.

On the rendering side I think you could use some ambient occlusion. It would really help bring out the holes in the revolvy bit that has the bullets and the ends of the barrels. I don't know what you're rendering in but you shouldn't really be rendering in Substance Painter as it's pretty limited. I recommend rendering in something that supports an ambient occlusion texture map and possibly screen-space reflections. That will help out those areas in particular.

The model and normals are well done overall. There are just a few things that could use some improvement here and there.

I think the tip of the lower barrel is bit more rounded, hey but just like
