Should I learn a 3D program before learning compositing?

So, from what I understand compositing is the last step of the process in an animation/movie/show, constructed from live and 3d footage. Being the last step, I was wondering how much of a grasp of the previous steps I need to have. I know basic modeling (not very good at it)and basic rigging.

Thanks

No, you do not have to learn a 3d program before learning compositing. You can start compositing you're own photography as a start, or a random photograph or image, or someones 3d model online as a practice point for starters.
