Monster Hunter: Hand-painted sword n shield

Thought i would try some quick fan art. Honestly, the purpose of this is to speed up my work flow, without getting bogged down by too many steps and create some stylized fan art for one of my favorite games.

Still need more refining and im hoping to have it finished in just one more solid session of painting. Particularly the "hairy" bits are giving me trouble so any advice on tackling those areas are appreciated. Anyway, feel free to tear in to it. When i finish this one ill be job hunting hard core again. Thanks in advance!!

The blade material definition is a bit weak, it looks like matte plastic. Same thing for the leather handle, looks like you just drew dark lines there and called it a day. Your bolts on the shield are missing TONNES of highlights and contrast. Overall not a bad start but needs more material definition, contrast and lighting.

Wellll that took a lot longer than expected. Too much real life happening. Have only gotten a chance to noodle at the textures here and there. Feeling good about the progress but just a few more things to go. The coarse hair parts are still giving me trouble. Any advice on those would be great. Thanks again to all who have contributed!!

Good start, everything looks like a base tho. As mrgesy said, you need to focus on creating tones, highlights and shadows. The ornate pattern on the shield and and sword seem to have no lighting lighting information at all.

Watch some videos to see how other people handpaint, imagine a skylight illuminating your model and try to match the lighting information.
