Hi All,
I'm a big fan of Warframe and its art style and was inspired to create my own version. This character originally started as a concept sculpt that i decided to take further to completion, developing on the idea of organic armor.
I'm uploading some of passes i made to chart my progress and get some fresh eyes on it.
More updates to come!
Have a great day!

More updates! This week I was mainly focusing on establishing cleaner shapes for the back, legs and face. I am also creating layered armour for him as I think it would look cool to see this Warframe with different material/texture properties.
I also gave a small updates to his helmet, such as the orb located at the side of his head, and the spiked area on the back.
Thanks for looking!

In this weeks update I wanted to establish a colour scheme in the concept images shown. I also did a quick paint over/material render pass to establish some of the different texture properties that I want the final model to have.
I want this Warframe to blend into the surroundings, so I chose a palette of colours that would suit a jungle environment as well as fit the Warframe style.
Thanks for looking!

This week i have been mainly concentrating on tightening up the over shape and sharpening up the details of the back armour.
Thanks for looking,
Rag.
maybe exaggerate the features on his head.
also i think theres too mcuh small detail spread out too evenly, maybe sepereate thsoe with larger plates of armour / muscle
I really feel like he needs a more interesting silhouette though. As of now, he sort of looks like just an Excalibur variation. He doesn't have an especially strong identity or focus.
If you look at all the frames, they all have one or two design features that make them instantly recognizable. Nyx has her curling helmet; Loki has the hammerhead design; Nekcros has the dreads and hood; Rhino has the physical bulk; Frost has his long coat.
I feel that you need to take some of these shapes and ideas and really push them out and emphasize them to create a clearer character concept.
Like, for example, your default colour scheme reminds me of poisonous plants. He has a spike design over his body. What if you emphasized those spikes and gave him a thorn motif over his body and his helmet, while enlarging the crest of his helmet?
(On the topic of the colour scheme you've given it it seems a little colourful and saturated for Warframes desaturated grey style, but maybe you have something planned for that!)
Congrats for the work. ; )
Firstly thank you very much for the feedback, it is greatly appreciated!
@ Mr Smo & drysider: It's funny that you both mention the silhouette as i'm currently focusing on addressing that issue. I do agree that it needs to be pushed a lot further to make it as distinct as the other Warframes.
I was hoping that the weapons would change the silhouette to make him more unique, but i agree that this Warframe should be able to have a distinct shape as he is.
The colour scheme is place holder for the moment as i will test out different material/shader properties with the colours used in that concept and adjust accordingly from there.
I was inspired to from a lot of bugs and jungle plants for this design and it looks like that we are on the same page in having spikes as a motif in his design as I'm planning to add a lot more to him.
hectorsdors: Thanks for the comment! I am planning to make a real time version of this Warframe as i want to learn new texture/shader techniques.
Thanks again for the feedback, more updates to come!
Have a great day!

Nice job here
In this weeks update I wanted to establish a new silhouette for Shadow as I felt it wasn't as unique or as recognizable as the existing Warframes. I focused mainly on the head for the moment, utilizing spikes as his signature design feature.
Also I was playing around with some ideas for Shadow when he is in 'battle mode' and came out with the idea of his head blades flipping out when he engages in combat.
That's all for the moment, and thanks again for looking!

In this weeks update I mainly focused on establishing the base design for the kunai, it's still a first pass at the moment but I will add more details soon.
Thanks for looking.

Apologies for the lack of updates recently. Here is the final look of the Kunai in Zbrush, its slightly wider that the original design as I wanted it to look a bit more threatening. These weapons will be slotted into a holster that I will be finalized later on.
Thanks for looking!
Rag.
Otherwise everything is pretty cool, love warframe
Here is a quick test of an idea i had to make the kunai have two weapon states (open and closed), the mesh isn't final as I'm still working on it, let me know what you think.
Thanks!
Rag.
Sorry for the lack of updates recently, I've been busy working on various things!
In this weeks update I wanted to show the new arm blade armour for Shadow. I thought it would be cool to break up his silhouette so that he doesn't look too symmetrical and to establish the Tenno emblem.
Have a great day!

In this weeks update I wanted to show the new head blade design. I'm fairly happy with the overall look in comparison with the old version.
Have a great day!

Hi All!
Here is a quick update on the texturing development of the Kunai.
The colours and details are still early as i am currently working on it. Image 1 is the model without maps, image 2 is the model with a normal map and image 3 is the model with normal, albedo, roughness and metalic maps assigned. All images are rendered in marmoset toolbag 2.
Thanks for looking!

The blade mechanism is made out of a shape changing metal alloy!
Thanks for the comment, more updates to come!

Hi All!
In this weeks update I mainly focused on testing various material types on the weapon until I got the result I was looking for. The glow effect is still a work in progress as it is a bit too bright at the moment.
More updates to come and have a great day!

Hi All!
It's been a while! I hope everyone is having a great 2016!
I'd like to show the final high poly sculpt, it might need small tweaks but overall i think its done. I'm fairly happy with the overall look in comparison with the older versions.
So on to the low poly, more updates on that coming soon!
Have a great day!

Hi All,
In this weeks update I wanted to show my progress on making the low poly version of the character model. I've started the retopology process and began doing some normal map tests, the renders were taken from marmoset toolbag 2.
Have a great day!

More updates to come!
Hi All,
Just a quick update to show my progress on making the other low poly parts of the character model and testing out some normal map bakes. The mesh still needs some optimization but I will do that at a later stage, the test renders were taken from marmoset toolbag 2.
Have a great day!

Hi All!
Just a quick update showing my progress on making the legs, more to come soon!
Thanks for looking!

Hi Everyone!
Its been awhile since my last update! I've been experimenting with some rigging techniques to see if the head will move how I would like it to when I come to pose the mesh. I did a quick animation test to show how the head blades will pop out when the character is in battle mode, hope you like it!
Have a great day!

Have a nice day!
Hi All!
Just a quick update showing the texturing of the head using substance painter. I wanted this Warframe to have camouflage stripes so that he can blend into the environment. Moreover, I added subtle detail to the green armour pieces as I didn't want to have a smooth look throughout.
More updates to come and have a great day!

Hi All!
In this weeks update I wanted to show my progress on texturing the legs. I was inspired by tiger stripes and wanted to include these types of motifs into the design.

Thanks for the kind comments, I really appreciate it!

Hi All,
Here is a quick update showing how some mesh pieces look in marmoset toolbag 2. I'm currently testing out different lighting/material setups to see which one looks the best.
Thanks for looking!

Hi All,
In this weeks update I wanted to show the final pedestal for the character to stand on, the renders were taken from marmoset toolbag 2.
More updates to come and have a great day!
