I wasn't expecting a new game, but apparently it sold well enough on PC, and the Long War mod turned a good game into something special, so I'm looking forward to seeing modding.
WHOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA ! Fking holy shit !
It started off in a big futuristic city and it looked like Satellite Reign, so I thought it would be a remake of X-COM:Apocalypse. Got me excited... But then they left the city and flew away... Fk Damnit.
But hey, maybe that was a large XCOM Mobile base ? Like, a HeliCarrier or something ?? I always thought mobile base would be cool and add great features to the game.
I wonder what the story will be - looks good, maybe a xcom-as-guerilla setting?
Always wanted for somebody to redo X-Com Apocalypse, I loved interacting with the various factions/gangs in the city and for example causing financial problems for them by using high explosives during raids (property damage).. classic. It was a hard game, though.
Sidenote; I also been saying since the launch of XCOM:EU that there should be melee weapon for soldier too. Like a Katana! No one took it seriously. Then Firaxis made EW and had giant mech with melee capabilities, and I laughed at those idiots a bit. And now, fk, a katana for xcom agent. WHAT HAVE I BEEN TELLING YOU THIS WHOLE TIME HUH !?
I hope there's a lot of melee weapons besides swords, I'd love a cloaking assasin class or something else interesting. I love the concept of the world, terrorist freedom fighters, huge mobile base, all awesome, different, and interesting. I want some missions in space or on the moon or something.
I'm excited for this. I wasn't expecting this at all, and I thoroughly enjoyed both EU and EW. I'm actually playing through EW again in my free time atm, even though I have a 50-60 game backlog.
I'm kinda disappointed that it looks like there won't be a console release, as I do enjoy playing on a TV. If it does end up being PC only, I'll have to eat it, because I'm definitely not skipping over this one.
Watch the debut trailer above for a glimpse into a future where the aliens are in control of the Earth, and XCOM has gone underground to fight to overthrow their Advent government. This new guerrilla force will face more powerful enemies in unpredictable combat scenarios as they fight to turn the tables on a technologically superior enemy.
- 5 new classes,
- mobile base called The Avenger
- Procedural generated maps (!)
- official mods and steam workshop integration
sounds awesome, big fan of Enemy unknown and its expansion!
By procedural I hope they mean modular, the maps of Xcom are very well designed and can be pretty tricky to take full advantage of. Too much random generation and not enough design would be a bad thing.
would be nice if they just showed the game, not some outdated looking wannabe-epic render trailer.
xcom was a good remake with only a few minor annoyances. shame they are not doing terror from the deep as the successor though. that was darker and more complex than the original if memory serves.
glad if they just skip apocalypse. that one sunk the xcom series as i recall.
I like the settings of this new XCOM. And I know they will do great job with the graphics. Now I can only hope they bring in new features and game mechanics. Something that is very different from the previous one. A real game changer, please.
There's been a fair few given how long we've been in the 'current gen'.
I can think of Daylight, Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Tekken 7, Hatred, Ether One, Pneuma and Storm United off the top of my head. There are five or six games at least in early access or closed beta at the moment (e.g. Alone in the Dark, Fortnite, Fractured Space etc), and a lot of games to come towards the end of the year
XCOM:EW has been on my wish list since it came out and I picked it up when they put it on sale with the trailer release! Opened it up and started playing again, I'm super pumped to see what the sequel is going to be like.
Psyched for the modding capabilities.. XCOM's game design was very close to Games Workshop's "Necromunda" tabletop game, a mod would awesome (but yeah. who's got the time).
Bah just when I was starting to feel productive after work again this comes along I'm personally loving the customization options from the early video review, +sounds like the games going to be way more mod friendly to boot. Huzzah! Also, it sounded like some sort of version of random attacks on the motherbase will be back in? Psyched for that, I didn't play the original original xcom but I loved the brutal base attacks in Xenonauts.
Ah I am really looking forward to xcom 2, this looks like so much fun! I am actually thinking of pre-ordering it and I have never pre-ordered any game.
I might get this, I haven't played the first one, but this one looks pretty cool. It's been a while since I've played a turn-based game, but this is grabbing my attention.
Well the games turning out even better than XCom Enemy Unkown/Within! I really enjoyed the amount of customization that was added in +alot more variety in enemies and gear.
Sadly I'm pretty sure I'm going to lose my first playthrough to the aliens
I seriously can't say enough good things about this game. From the incredible graphics, to the improved squad tactics and strategy layer, and the deep level of customization, this is a vast improvement of an already excellent game. Also there's already a bunch of awesome improvements and additions added by fans that give you more customizations, or more options.
Haha that's great. I was playing on Commander and was just getting fucked wreckeeeed around the point i started unlocking new gear, seems a lot harder by default than xcom eu/ew. Switched to veteran difficulty and so far it seems more manageable while trying to figure out how the new globe system and events work. I'm pretty sure I was going to lose on commander for not knowing or even building most of the important and powerful facilities and putting off what I thought was an easy objective until everything became way stronger than my men.
I'm starting to think if I had a 95% chance of winning the lotto I'd lose half the time. Game's more addicting than free drinks at the slot machines!
Ha this game is awesome! When I started playing I lost all 3 missions after the tutorial and then I restarted, completed them, then learned I was doing stupid things and losing time because of it and restarted again for a "real' playthrough. Also I can't wait till there is more customization options for the soldiers.
I loved the game, its awesome, the graphics are awesome, everything is very polished, the only bad thing is performance, but they already said that they are trying to solve problems.

For those that don't want to read, it's Unreal Engine 3 with some bells and whistles like PBR.
Nice "Happy" armor

Like, new hairs, new helmets, new torso/sleeves armors and such.
When it's here, it's gonna be great.

To encourage anyone on the fence to make a purchase, I think you can still get 25% off at green man gaming through here:
