Maya 2016 UV Editor Overlap issue

I'm texturing a project and I just downloaded 2016. My problem is, I need some UVs to overlap, but overlapping is turned off and I can't find where to turn it on in this version.

I tried UV>layout, but changing the overlap setting there does me no good.

Also, I can't select more than one shell at a time.

What am I doing wrong? The Help has been unhelpful.

Make sure you don't have some other UV editing tool active when trying to select shells. Press Q and try your selection again.

As far as I know, Maya won't know how to overlap specific UVs unless you overlap them manually or mirror your geometry after packing your UVs.

The "per object" setting in the Layout options is meant for multiple mesh objects, not individual UV shells of the same object. While you could separate parts as separate objects and use this setting (and combine your meshes afterward), Maya will still have no clue about how you want your UVs stacked.

If you have multiple UV shells that are exactly the same, you should be able to snap your shells on top of each other by holding D and V to snap your gizmo to a UV point, then while holding just V, you can move your shell and snap it to another shell at the same UV point.

Holding D allows you to quickly adjust the gizmo's location.
Holding V toggles point snapping while it's held down.

Thanks. Some other tool must have been active cus it works fine now. I wasn't trying to get Maya to layout the shells for me, I was just trying to arrange them myself and it wasn't letting me overlap anything. Still not sure why, but its working now so I'll take it.

And thanks for the tips about D and V, too; I didn't know about that. Should speed things up in the future.
